Sirius XM On Blackberry
As with many people, I am a Blackberry fan. I have seen and used the iPhone, but simply have not been compelled to make the switch. Thus, the ability to get satellite radio programming over my Blackberry was an interesting concept.
The XM for Blackberry service uses some of the best of the merged channel line-up offered by Sirius XM in an easy to navigate menu. Subscribers can listen to channels ranging from Hip Hop to Country, Rock to Jazz and more. It’s not just music either. The service also delivers Raw Dog Comedy and The Virus which is home to Opie & Anthony.
I have been using the service for about a month now, and can say that I am impressed with the offering. Catching satellite radio over the cell phone is a cool concept that will only improve as time passes. I find myself using the service in areas where I typically would not, and it came in handy when I wanted to catch the end of an Opie & Anthony segment after parking my car. I simply tuned in on the cell, continued to listen, and went on my way. Over time, the potential for new channels such as Sirius Stars, Sirius Stars 2, and Howard Stern need to be considered, but at this point, the 20 channels being offered are a good cross section of popular channels that the majority of subscribers would have as presets anyway.
The XM for Blackberry service costs just $7.99 per month, and for the satellite radio addict, it is a great solution. You can even test drive the service for FREE (which I would recommend to any Blackberry user) for 14 days by visiting www.xmradio.com/bb. One caution is that you should understand your cell carriers data plan prior to using the service. As a user of T-Mobile, I have unlimited data, thus the usage does not rack up additional charges.
Position – Long Sirius XM
Tyler,
Thanks for the info – signing up for the free trial now. Any idea how much of the 8 bucks a month goes to SIRIXM?
Tyler,
Thanks for the article. This is something I did not know even existed. I was hoping they would move along these lines to grow the service and the subscriber base. When do we hear about a partnership with the MSFT Zune player? It’s in these areas of possibility that this company can really make strides right now, and make their mark. I am very enthused by the fact I can get even limited SIRI service on my Blackberry!
I downloaded and started listening – even though it’s a limited range of channels, it’s pretty cool.
I have the SelectRadio app on my Windows Mobile AT&T Tilt and I get ALL of the Sirius and XM online channel offerings for FREE.
Why would I want to pay extra to get the online content that is already included in my Sirius and XM subscriptions and get less channels? The sound quality is more compressed and sounds crummy on the Blackberry app too……
Get a Windows Mobile phone or an iPhone when the new Starplayr app comes out if you want to listen to Sirius/XM on your cell phone…
Here is a link to get the SelectRadio app….
http://www.selectradio.com/
I tried to do this with my Pearl 8100 but got a 404 error, Page not found, when i went to http://www.xmradio.com/bb
Any ideas???
I would love to try this as I am a shareholder but not a subscriber yet. This would be a perfect trial to see if i want it in my vehicle!
If I have an XM online account can I listen to XM on the Blackberry Storm? Can I listen to all the channels not just the ones listed for accounts opened for use with Blackberrys. Would the reception be the same?
THIS IS COMPLETE BS, this should be a free feature for existing customers, specially since there was an app already that was fored to be shutdown …. I wonder ….
No way would i pay an additional fee to listen to xm on my blackberry. There are tons of free apps that offer a great range of channels…the service should be free for existing xm users…what a scam
Just talked to Sirius tech support. Blackberry launch is delayed until January 27th,2010. It is free if you subscribe to internet radio.
hmmm 7.99… i little steep for wifi only..
